It's funny how different languages affect you. I was playing some lofi girl on youtube while doing something and noticed the "merch available" notification…and for a second my brain identified the first word as Welsh, so I understood "girl available". 😅

Lulz that’s pretty funny and now I learned a new Welsh word!
Slightly unrelated, but I grew up learning British English (as does most of the non-English speaking world afaik). I knew before moving to America there were gonna be some slight differences and I tried preparing myself as much as possible by watching American movies, tv shows, etc.
Fast forward, I’m in university. I realized I forgot to bring an “eraser,” so I ask the guy next to me if I could borrow a “rubber”… he gives me this slightly horrified and confused look. And that’s when I learned that rubber was slang for condom in America 😂

2 words for girl. Merch, and hogan, depending where you are.

I know his name is Data but I have never really watched Star Trek. How do they pronounce his name?

See that just fuels the idea in my mind that day-ta is the American pronunciation. Star Trek is an American show.

It's the British pronunciation too. I thought dah-tah was Australian/NZ but it seems quite popular.

I only thought it was. In Swedish it's pronounced dah-ta so everyone here would saynit like that in English. So would every foreign language.

seriously, I've never thought of it before, but I have used both pronunciations.
You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.
