Yep, I saw it in a theatre in Denver in summer 89 when I was very young. I remember being scared when Janosz's eyes start to glow, but I still really liked it. I remember going to Toys R Us later that day and getting some Kenner Real Ghostbusters toys - the ecto popper and goggles set. We also had spaghetti O's in the shape of the Ghostbusters and other assorted merchandise like storybooks. Ghostbusters was really huge round about that time. it just seemed to be everywhere.
'Cause if it leaks to the VC he could end up MIA, and then we'd all be put on KP. -

I saw this in the UK in December 1989 (as it opened months later here than in the USA) for my friend's 10th birthday, I was 9 myself.
I can remember absolutely loving it, and I got the novelisation for Christmas that year. I also remember Shreddies cereals having different scenes from the movie on the back of their cereal packets, and stickers of the ghostbusters/ghosts etc inside the packet so you could make your own scenes etc.!
My final other random memory is going for a birthday McDonald's after the movie (McDonald's was really a treat for kids back then!) and we all got strawberry milkshakes and pretended they were slime drinks haha!
Very fond memories of this movie

I saw it twice. In those days it was a long time before things were available to rent on video and as a huge fan of the original I was thrilled when this came out. I saw it once on the big screen and once in the small. I was 12 and I can still remember the laughter from the cinema when I watch it now. I distinctly recall the Winston ghost train scene and his punch line getting a big laugh.
