Why isn't Michael Ironside Darkseid?

yeah thats a voice Welker used a lot. not only as Darkseid and Dr. Claw but he also used it for that demon thing at the end of the first Mortal Kombat live action movie and used it again in the Spawn live action movie for the devil.
and an interesting tidbit, while not obvious with the vocal effects added in post production, its the same voice he used for Soundwave on the original Transformers movie. which he used again but without effects in Revenge of the Fallen.
so yeah its definately a "go to" voice for Mr. Welker. lol -

I am also dissapointed that Michael Ironside is not gonna be in this. This new guy's voice does not sound deep or evil enough in my opinion, from what I heard in the "first look", but maybe it will be better in the finished product. You know what else would be an interesting/fun idea. Bring back Frank Welker who voiced Darkseid on Super Powers Team. That is the voice I hear in my head whenever I read a comic with Darkseid!
I totally agree. I like Andre Braugher but he just can't pull off the "I'm the most evil motherfrakker in the universe" vibe like Michael Ironside can. -

Agreed!
Think Everyone respects Michael Ironside as the voice of Darkseid and rightfully so. Andre Braugher if given a chance however, might offer up something Ironside didn't manage to do himself though.
Somebody else who's different and new walking and taking a well known role is always a change of pace and it'll be different alright, but its not necessarily a bad thing though, the film will be out on DVD/Blu-Ray within a few weeks time so we know soon enough exactly how Andre Braugher was for everybody as Darkseid!

Darkseid should have been voiced by Lance Henriksen.
Braugher has a cool voice but is horribly miscast as Darkseid, he'd make a nice Despero or Mongul.
Darkseid should always sound as if with a cold calculated menace, here he sounds like a generic crime boss and way too emotional. -

I don't know if i'd call it a "security blanket" so much as I would a "preference." Certain voice actors embed themselves into a role and in my opinion, shouldn't be replaced. Try to imagine someone besides David Hayter doing Solid Snakes voice, or Peter Cullen NOT voicing Optimus Prime. (don't mention Transformers Animated, that was crap) I understand that scheduling conflicts, etc. will sometimes play into this kind of thing, but whatever Michael Ironsides was doing instead of this, I hope he got paid some decent bank.

Agreed Scarecrow.
It's like the role of Darkseid was made for Ironside's voice.
I didn't like how Darkseid was drawn either, I preferred the look of the Superman/Justice League/JLU animated versions of Darkseid. -

Though it would have been really hard to get him James Earl Jones would have been perfect for Darkseid, his presence is very similar to Vader and Jones' eloquent yet powerful voice would suit Darkseid to a tee.

Man, now that you mention it, James Earl Jones would be fantastically great for a guest voice role in any DC animated feature, i actually wonder why he hasn't been casted in a role by Andrea yet for a DC animated flick, lol!
As Darkseid? hmmmm, if Warners did a New Gods DTV movie. I can possibly imagine somebody of James Earl Jones' calibur and importance to be "Yuga Khan" Darkseid's father (currently imprisoned on the 'Source Wall'), now that would be a master-stroke of voiceover casting! I also think a DTV movie based on Jack Kirby's 'New Gods' is long overdue. Orion not Superman or Wonder Woman, is destined to beat and defeat Darkseid. The only way for that to be realised by the majority of DC fans and consumers of the DC animated films, is to feature an entire 90 minute movie around Kirby's New Gods themselves and truly get to know that unique story rather than have it only feature Darkseid as the bad guy for Earth's heroes to look great combating against him. To have a larger epic story be the focus for a New Gods tale, based around the feud and 'Cold War' between Darkseid of Apokolips and Highfather New Genesis and all of the larger than life characters Jack Kirby created for it!

Andre Braugher was perfect. He sounded evil. Which is something I look fwd in a villain especially one who is threatening to Superman. This is one of the best DC animations I have seen in a long time. I didn't even notice Ironside was Darkside before.

The only constants are Conroy, Clancy Brown and the Amanda Waller voice. The Mark Hamil joker is pretty cool, but I can live with his replament in the Red Hood. Greenwood is good, but he just comes off as a Conroy wanna be. If I'm going to get another actor, I need another voice altogether.

IMO James Earl Jones for Darkseid is a no go. I'm tired of it. When it comes to Ironside, what stood out to me is how he enunciates Supes native name.

Yeah he makes it sounds nasty and dirty. Big kudos to Michael Ironside.
