His favorite performance of mine is from Contact. The way he pla2000ys Hadden, albeit different from the book, was just so memorable. You could feel the power that character had, as he pulled the strings from behind the curtain; it emanated from his performance. So good.
John, you will be sorely missed and will inspire generations of actors to come. Thanks for giving us your best all these years. -

May he Rest in Peace he was one of those actors you could watch play different parts in film/tv shows back to back and not even realise it was the same actor.

I just found out, this is terrible. We are losing all the great actors. John Hurt was one of my favorites. I wrote to him some years ago, he send me back an autographed photo with a personalized message, it was so cool for him to do that. Have it framed on my living room. Rest in Peace, I'll always cherish your work

He was one of my all-time favorite actors, and it's truly sad to hear that he's no longer with us. I made a YouTube video with my Top 5 favorite movies of his. Here's the link:

R.I.P. to John, one of the most prodigiously gifted actors in history. I had a bad feeling when he withdrew from the Branagh production of "The Caretaker", but then he'd racked up so many projects that I wondered if his story had really had a happy ending, after all. Sadly, it wasn't the case. Met him by chance in Leicester Square in October 2014; I will always keep a fond memory of this. A very nice gentleman.
