What is his best performance outside Dr Loomis?

Pleasence does238 a very funny send-up of his Dr. Loomis character as a wacky pot-smoking hippie shrink who runs an experimental sanitarium in "Alone in the Dark." "Raw Meat" is another truly fine turn by the always delightful Donald; he's hilarious in the bar scene where he gets loud and boisterous after downing one too many drinks. And his creepy portrayal of an odious graverobber in "The Flesh and the Fiends" is quite terrific as well.

A GREAT actor (Great Escape, Cul-De-Sac, Will Penny).yet, didn't like many of his contemporaries. I remember watching a UK chat show in the late 80's, when he said that the only actor he ever 'got on' with was "Jimmy Garner" when he made 'The Great Escape'. A difficult man to know, but yes, a wonderful actor.

The greatest Ernst Stavro Blofeld of all ("You Only Live Twice") and the first time we saw the face of the top honcho of SPECTRE, other than just his back on a chair holding a cat as in previous films.
That is why it is HIS vesion of Blofeld which was patterned for "Dr. Evil" in those Mike Myers' Austin Powers movies.
He was also great in "The Great Escape" and as one of the Southerner bad guys in Charlton Heston's cowboy movie "Will Penny". Pleasance nailed the Dixie accent perfectly! -

Blofeld in You Only Live Twice. Even though you only see him for a couple of minutes, he's still the image we associate with Blofeld. That's pretty good.
I'm very fond of an episode of The Outer Limits he did, and I'm sorry that I don't remember the name, but he played a mild-mannered scientist who discovers that he has telekenitic powers. Great stuff.
And one of my favorites, though probably not many others, is his performance in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I would pay for a whole CD just for those few seconds of "I Want You" that he sings.
