1. A Woman Under The Influence

To me his stuff was born out of the whole New York, newer, improvisational acting/jazz era of the 50's.
So just like how you can listen to the same jazz song improvised in many different ways and find something new in it, so to can you also constantly find several fresh new things each time you watch one of Cassavettes movies.
So I love em all. -

happy to see that some of you have included 'husbands' on your lists.
that's my favourite.
i have problems with a lot of 'his' movies. they make me feel uncomfortable, and i realize that is what he was going for, but i don't like that feeling when watching a movie.
and yet, when i watch 'husbands', i don't get that feeling. i love it for all the comedic moments, and for all the love between the 3 of them.
it's a wonderful interpretation of what men deal with in life.and i think the 3 of them displayed it better than in any movie i've seen.
john is sadly gone, and peter is sadly dealing with dementia and possibly alzheimers..and benny 'the great' is still out there receiving the jimmy stewart 'harvey' award'yay benny!!!
these 3 guys will always hold a special place in my heart

Love Streams (10/10)
Minnie and Moskowitz (10/10)

Still haven't seen Big Trouble, Too Late Blues, or A Child Is Waiting. Although Gloria sorta scared me off of anything studio-related. Doesn't seem like he cared too much about those.
Mikey and Nicky is also incredible.

John Cassavetes [5 films]
10/10- Faces
- Opening Night
- Husbands
8/10 - A Woman Under the Influence
5/10 - Gloria
Gloria and A Woman Under the Influence were my first 2 and I was underwhelmed to the extreme, waited forever to watch anymore. I've loved the more recent 3 I've seen though and will certainly see more in the future.

Love streams was the first one I saw and at first I thought it was good but not great. But now after about two years since I've seen it I think its a masterpiece. Husbands is the last one I saw and it moved me more than the rest. All his films that I've seen are great in my opinion.

Opening Night was the best. I loved Shadows and Chinese Bookie too, but Opening Night really spoke to me.

I've changed my mind now that I've seen Opening Night again. It's probably my all-time favorite film. Still need to see Love Streams. It's so hard to find.
