Atleast with two: Mickey Rooney and Frank Sinatra (in his youth, mind you, he was a very sexy older man). Or am I the only one who thinks this? I doubt that she was a golddigger, altough one never knows. Or maybe it was just love

Mickey was also one of the biggest stars in the world at the time and she was an extra. I'm sure that had something to do with it. And frank was considered attractive to a lot of women at the time.

Shaw I get (although he sounded like a right git), Sinatra I get. Rooneywelljust no. Always looked like a little boy, not a man. Charisma can only go so far.

I think Mickey Rooney had something else going for him besides fame and money. I've read snippets here and there that he had many women and no less than 8 of them married him - including Ava G. no matter how often she may have resisted dating him in the beginning. If she was such a Helen of Troy even as a fledgling starlet she could've snagged some other Hollyweird bigwig besides "ugly" Mickey if she wanted to. Plus, Mickey was probably a lot of fun to be around. Never heard anyone say the same about Gardner, whose looks and "talent" are overrated imo.

Actually, there were several people who loved being with Ava Gardner. Ava could be irritating and moody, but no one ever claimed she was dull. Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson, Lena Horne, David Niven, Sammy Davis Jr, Clark Gable and Robert Taylor were enchanted by Ava's fun personality. Let's not forget that Frank Sinatra never stopped pining for Ava even as she admitted that Artie Shaw was the love of her life.
As for Rooney, he could be very unpleasant. Have you ever read any of his books or interviews? He made up stories about his own life and the people in them. He published details of his sex life with Ava and the rest for all to see. He claimed that poor people CHOSE to be born that way! He was also very rude to fans. Once he became a born-again [they're always a joy!!] he became more egotistical, a lot more rude and homophobic.
                  He does sound like fun!

Looks don't always make up the perfect man. Besides that, Rooney was cute and Sinatra was sexy. I don't see any problems look-wise with them.
I would have married Sinatra over some wooden male model.

Looks often don't matter to women; it's the chemistry that counts.

She was not a gold digger. Turned down countless marria5b4ge proposals from Howard Hughes and did not get a dime from any of her three ex-husbands. All of her husbands (and lovers, of which there were many) were good in the sack, which is what mattered most to her.

She also turned down countless dtaes from Rooney himself before she caved in and agreed to go with him. Her initial refusals were crushing to his enormous ego.

                              True.
It kind of what turned me off about her also, like commenting on Frank Sinatra being "all man" where it counts, etc.
Those are the kind of guys she liked.

Guys get it, but that doesn't mean women don't care about a man's looks; they are still human and sexual beings. Also, who is say that great-looking men are not also great on the inside? Yeah, right, women don't care about looks.

That statement tells me you really don't get it. Sexual chemistry is in the head. What is important to the woman is what will attract her to the man (be that looks, or charisma, or both).
Of course it would be ideal if a great looking guy would also have all the other things we want in a man, but that isn't generally the case. So we'd rather have a nice, stable, loyal, funny, and hard working man regardless of looks over a good looking, abusive jerk any day. (Special note that some women are happier with a good looking a$$hole for the status, but those are women with low self esteem.)

You are speaking for YOUR-self,not all women. <<
Of course I am speaking for myself (DUH), but I've talked with friends on this topic and many feel as I do. You sound like you're taking this personally. Are you an average looking guy who has been shot down by one too many women ?

                                      Yes, I do get it,Jane.
I could easily use your example as a reciprocal for why men choose women. What makes you assume men don't want the same things that you cite a woman looks for in a man? And you never addressed my original point about the pre-conceived notion of great-looking men being great on the inside also. Men and women want the same things.
I responded to your post in a polite manner, and you come back with a bitchy insulting attitude. That tells me where you're coming from also. I am not taking it personally, and no I haven't been shot down by 5b4women,nor have I been described as "average" looking,in all modesty.
                                      Get over your anti-male sentiments.
                                      Bye.
