A Christian?

"I say this because 99% of disagreements during debates in doctrine/theology end by one party simply refusing to continue debating once they are argued into a corner" taken from guitar owners post.

First of all, I'm a Christian too and I agree with guitarowner on all but two things.
- "O Entertainment's Christmas movie "Santa Vs. The Snowman" had nothing to do with Christ, which would be odd if a Christian was making a Christmas movie."
I don't think it's odd for a Christian to make a film about Santa or Snowmen. Just because someone is a Christian means they can't talk about Santa. My parents told me Santa was real and someday I'll tell my kids Santa is real. There's nothing wrong with it as long as you teach them that Christmas is also about Jesus. I mean, seriously, what's wrong with Santa and what's the harm in telling your kids about him? They grow out of it. I'm pretty sure there is no 30 year old "kids" out there waiting up on Christmas Eve to get a glimps of Santa. - "There are very few Christians in the entertainment business I think, and that's probably because most Christians realize that their efforts could best be used to serve God in other ways. Making mainstream movies doesn't do much for God"
What about Passion of the Christ? I think the only reason movies don't do much for God is because no one makes them. And all "God movies" that come out are usually cheesey and dumb. That's why I liked Passion. It was real. I think we need more people like Mel Gibson making these movies. Who cares if he's Roman Catholic instead of Christianas long as the message is getting across.

You agree with everything he said put those two things? What about the rest of it? Like where it is OK to judge everybody else but refuses to look at himself. It's called hipocracy, not too Christian is it?
Um, 'Catholic Theology' is the original, unbroken theology passed on from Christ down through the apostles, not the goofy, da0'made-up' theology of the Protestants.
Really? Ok where in the bible does it say pray and worship Mary?
He he he talk about a coincidence, See it's strange that he uses this argument and then has no follow through.
My point exactly. I hate it when people start these arguments then disappear. He was all brave until someone logically approaches him, them "poof" they're gone.

Show me where it says in the Catechism of the Catholic Church to do the same, and you'll have a point.
EDIT: Not that you don't have a point anyway; I don't mean to be so trite and dismissive. It's a common misconception.
EDIT EDIT: But I'm still waiting. -

I will be honest wiht you, I don't really follow. I don't know much about the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I just remember a lot of the bible from my Christian days.
I have been curious about the Catechism. So I take it that it has no mention of the who Saints and Mary thing?

No, it mentions the saints and Mary, but it also explains that they are not worshiped. I guess the idea is since we have immortal souls, once you're a member of the church, you stay a member even after death.
Like if you have a prayer group, and you ask someone to pray for you, you aren't treating that mortal person as God. You're asking them to petition God on your behalf. The same applies for the saints. -

Immortal souls. And it's not just the saints. I have one and you have one and everybody has one, and once God brings you into the church (according to the Sacraments recorded in the gospel and the acts of the apostles, such as baptism) you remain, even after bodily death. And we aren't strict dualists, either, since the body will be raised from the dead at the end of time, although we don't pretend to know when that is.
So you are asking a person to petition God on your behalf. A properly worded prayer will not assert the nonexistent primacy of the saint, and will always be very clear that all power and all assistance comes from the triune God himself, and no one else. Even Mary, who everyone thinks we worship, is only special because she is the mother of Christ! If Christ were not who He is, she would be of no special note. -

Just because your a christian, doesn't mean you have to make "christian" movies.
If a painter is a christian, it doesn't mean he has to paint Jesus all day.

This has been a very interesting message board to read. From watching some ob68f Steve's movies it appears that he is a christian or at least has "christian" values. Take "Nothing to lose". The main character could have cheated on his wife and an argument could have been made that he would have been justified in doing so, but chose not to which turned out to be the right choice. It's very funny about some people who call themselves "christians" and would rather spend more time looking down at people and thumbing their noses at people than looking at the big picture. Instead of looking at what seperates us religously and wether or not one bible has "thee" at the top of page 165 in stead of the other one that has "thou" on page 165, we need to look what is the same instead of differences.

Wow, I don't usually have time to check out all the jazz written about me on the internet and this is the first time I've ever posted a response, but this dialogue was both unusually unique and interesting. Yes, I am a Christian and believe that Christ died for our sins. I was also given sort of a wacky mind and have felt a drive to make people laugh from the time I was a little kid. Fuse those together and you wind up with me. The range of tones from project to project is a bit more eclectic than the norm. It's quite a spread between the Patch Adams and Bruce Almightys of the world and the Kung Pow and Thumbs. I'm definitely drawn to positive energy messages, while at the same time have this huge affinity for the inane. I feel very blessed and my career and I myself a continuing work in progress. Hope this clears up some of the theories. Have a blast,

As much as I'd like to think that Steve is a Christ2000ian, I don't really see the evidence for it. He seems like a nice guy, but that's not Christianity. For example, a number of his movies include profanity, which goes against Ephesians 4:29
nobody's perfect. there are great christians who use profanity. just because someone curses doesn't mean that he or she is automatically out of the running of being a christian.

Naw man. If you read Hebrew, like I do, it becomes apparent that it doesn't mean don't "cuss" it means don't use G-d as a justification for evil deeds. Basically, what it's saying means, don't rape pillage and murder and then say I told you to. Of course, actually noting that invalidates almost every single Christian church ever to exist, so it isn't regularly clarified.
Also, the word "abomination" for gays is another mistranslation. The word has 2 meanings, 1) Abomination (roughly, it more literally means a sin against G-d)and 2) a moral miscalculation. Now, there is no 1 word in English that means "a moral miscalculation" so the translators went with the word that had an easier translation, which would seem more direct. Except, it doesnt make sense. There are 3 uses of the word abomination in the bible, all in Leviticus. 1) Bestiality, 2)homosexuality and 3) eating shell fish, which the bible says will destroy your soul. But again, if you actually read the surrounding texts, it becomes apparent that these are things to pity people for, not righteous indignation that words like abomination would imply. Therefore, I maintain that the first 2 are mistranslated.
as for the passion, I thought it was the best snuff film ever made. but it completely fails as a narrative on its' own.

I've gotten that vibe myself, that maybe he's a Christian. I think Steve has a great sense of humor. Only a small portion of my DVD library is comedy, but Kung Pow, the Thumb movies, and the Almighty movies are great, great stuff. I hope he'll do more projects mixing comedy and faith.
