The man in the dog suit had a larger role and dialogue in the novel. I can't remember much about that part, specifically, but the novel does portray the hotel as having been a decadent den of sin in the past.

What da hell kinda question is this? Were you raised in a barn in a rural timber camp or something?
Anyway yes there is that scene in the original story. But it is only there to provoke our own societal-bred reactions.
Said another way: imperialist western society tends to inculcate homophobia in citizens –even against our better wisdom and saner judgment.
King cleverly stings us with these false values of ours; this is in line with the rest of the novel's intention. Showing up the falsity of white culture.

🤣 Errrrr! Has the sarcasm been lost on you?

So it was included to repulse the easily shocked and ignorant. A cheap shot if you ask me.

        Errrr! Is that reverse racism?

Blowbear is easily the best ghost. I was gutted when he didn’t make a cameo appearance in Doctor Strange, all the other classic ghosts did 🤷🏻‍♂️
Are King and Kubrick anti gay? I doubt it, but they intuitively understand that men are grossed out by two guys buttfucking, and Wendy was too.
This is multiplied when one of the guys is wearing a bear costume with a buttflap set to ‘open’.

So the film, ( and even book ), was pandering to a base element with its imagery? This says a lot about the intention of the artists.

Good indeed. Movies were much better when they pandered to normal straight men.

Normalcy is debatable, but yes, movies were better in the past and gay themed ones were a treasure for those looking for crumbs. Even they were better.

The normalcy of straightness is not debatable. Straightness is the norm, otherwise the human race would cease to exist. Gayness is an abnormal aberration, though it might serve some fringe societal purpose.

The human race needs to be extinguished. It’s an idea of normalcy only and straight pricks are their own worst enemy.
Gayness is an evolved state of being. It means the human existence realm is going to be transcended for them. Have fun ****ting and pissing.

You said you just wanted equal rights. ‘Love is love’. Against our better judgement we decided to believe you out of compassion.
And now the mask falls and we see what you ******* were after all along.
We were clued in when you started gyrating in front of our children at your sordid ‘Pride’ festivals, but it’s good to have your goals finally spelled out. Thank you.

No, there is nothing homophobic about this scene. The sudden appearance, fetish "mask", and the fact thst they are ghosts and that its sexual activity od any sort, is meant to be "shocking". A common horror trope is using sex in a creepy way. American Horror Story did this a lot in the first two seasons.

Ahhhhh! But American Horror Story isn’t scary and is produced by an openly gay man and has lots of parts for gay actors. It took a cue from Kubrick’s The Shining and warped it.
This scene in The Shining is not scary and the shock value was deliberately designed to pander to those in the audience at the time, (which would have largely been ignorant and homophobic), who would have been repulsed.
If it was a man eating out some chicks pussy, would it have been seen as shocking/ debauched/scary?
