Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Cujo

    XtroTerrestial — 12 years ago(October 10, 2013 05:25 PM)

From the very start, we see Cujo just innocently playing catch the rabbit, and can see him before he got sick. He was more like Beethoven at that point.
So, with that said, even when he was on his murderous rampage, I could still see that innocent animal we saw in the beginning of the movie. So when it came time for his end, I couldn't help but feel like he was a victim as well. Did anyone else feel this way?

That shows we're human. Its not an enjoyable thing (for normal human beings) to watch a dog suffer and/or die. For me, I can't watch Old Yeller. This is a different movie I know but it still sucks.

Yes, Cujo is definitely a victim of chance, just like Donna and Tad. All he wanted was the pain to go away. Knowing that rabies affects the central nervous system, every sound hurt.

Of course. I felt bad for Cujo. I felt bad for the kid seeing his dog in that state. I felt bad for Donna and Tad the most though. Cujo was still attacking them, they didn't do anything wrong. Cujo may not have been himself, but I am still going to feel more sorry for innocent humans than innocent dogs.

Oh, don't get me wrongI'm not minimizing the suffering that the Donna and Tad went through at all. I simply cannot imagine being stranded in my car on a hot summer day with a small child. Dehydration would be an absolutely horrible way to die or almost die, as the case may be.

Donna wasn't innocent, she was a cheating bitch.

Why feel more sorrow for the humans that got hurt or killed than for the dog? To me it is worse what happened to Cujo. He was an innocent animal that was supposed to be taken care of and he wasn't. Innocence is innocence, whether it is an animal or a human.

I felt worst for Cujo in the book. The ending is heartbreaking.
                            spoilers for book ending ahead
King writes something along these lines:
"Cujo never wanted to hurt anyone, especially THE MAN or THE BOY. He would have died for them, if that had been required. It was only a disease called rabies"
I weep every time I read that. But I also weep for the much sadder ending King wrote for the book: Tad dies!
"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
                            "Didn't he discover America?"
                            "Penfold, shush."

On the one hand, it's an innocent dog that is a victim of a disease.
On the other hand, HELL NO. It may not have asked to get rabies, but the fact is he has it, he's killed people, and he's trying to kill me, AND my baby. I'd bash his ****in head in the first chance I got.
Poor Cujo? No, poor KID. Dude's probably traumatized for life (or if you read the book, apparently he just straight up dies, because King was in a VERY bad/dark place when he wrote the story).

I think the Cujo was sympathetic like that. I know it was not his fault that he got rabies.
