Cosner's best movie

I think Costner's best performance was in "A Perfect World," but the movie was very uneven. "No Way Out" would make the top 6 for me along with "Field of Dreams," "Dances with Wolves," "Open Range," "The Untouchables," and "Bull Durham." His worst, by far, was "Robin Hood," and I blame that movie for the image some people have of him as a wooden actor. I think he's actually quite good in most things, but he stunk in that.

I agree 100%. I am not a Costner fan but he is good in this - but in fact everyone in this film is superb.
This is one of my favorite films. In addition to extememly good acting performances by all there was a well conceived & written plot and top notch direction, production and editing. Even the dialog that concerned computer programming was accurate. The real star of the movie, however, is Will Patton who plays Scott Pritchard, the Gene Hackman character's assistant. The plot really revolves around him and he is masterful in a very complex character assignment.
The only other films Costner has been in that I liked were Dances With Wolves and JFK and not because of Costner, but because they were good films. -

I agree with you. This film is pretty much the main reason I like Kevin Costner as an actor.
The Untouchables
was fun, but a bit too over-the-top for my tastes; that's definitely more on De Palma then on Costner though.
As a scuba diver, I appreciate
Waterworld
because of how difficult it was to make and how interesting the world it presents is. But I still wouldn't single out any of the acting performances as first-rate the way so many were in
No Way Out
.
Come to think of it, I liked
The Guardian
a lot more than I thought I would, considering it's an Ashton Kutcher vehicle. So maybe I do like more of Kevin's stuff than I thought.
But I'll never forget the first time I saw
No Way Out
in the theater. I couldn't wait to find out how Tom would get out of the jam he was in, and then that surprise ending floored me, but I loved it.
I also like the whole moral ambiguity about having his buddy enter a gift registry record in the State Department database, even though the data in the record was essentially truthful. Too bad Sam thought that was too much to ask. -
