I finally got to see this wonderful, beautiful, tragic, thought provoking, surreal love story and thought it amazing. Although I have one question about the end.
In the copy I saw the ending was with the radio antenna (which i did noticed the cork on top of as mentioned in another thread) and they talk about their clothes being wet. It pans out and theres the rainbow. Now I couldn't tell but I saw it as they were naked and not moving, maybe died from hypothermia or something.
It makes sense to me in some way to have them die naturally because they would be together but she woudn't notice she hadn't fulfilled her purpose (what with being dead and all).
I would like some clarification on this? Or your thoughts!

Well; as the love interest (Park Il-Sun) suggested they take their clothes off; it wasn't suggested that they were suffering from hypothermia (involuntary shivering, loss of complex motor skills, shutting down of blood vessels); that Park Chan-wook, the director, intended to have a happy ending; I believe that it was showing just showing Il-Sun and Young-goon lying nude together - perfectly happy. I maybe wrong but wasn't the rainbow the same colour as her toes when she's powered up? I took the ending to mean (noting the cork and antenna) that the two complete each other. Il-Sun protect Young-goon from her belief that she is a cyborg and she has given him her sympathy - or rather her empathy.

I too thought they were dead at first, then I thought that maybe they had just made love and where enjoying the "aftermath" of it all. There heads appeared to be moving as if they were making out!

That's weird, I honestly thought I saw them actually moving. I thought the reason it was in extreme long-shot was because they were actually "doing it".
I just re-watched the end, and they are definitely moving.

Watching it really closely I can see them moving around. I'm almost certain they're having sexI didn't see any real redemption, they're completely insane still but they love each other and within that context can be happy. It's the only movie by Park that I've seen in which I smiled at the end and felt generally good and hopeful, it isn't cheesy because they're still insane at an asylum but they've found each other and that's enough for them

There would be no point having the whole film where they fall in love and the guy finds his purpose in keeping her alive if in the ending they died.
That would have been rubbish
