rescue but not from a shelter. it's from a retired vet who runs a pet foster home thing so the dogs are all well taken care of, trained, and loved before being adopted out
I want to adopt young and all the young dogs at the shelter are either pitbull or some mystery mutt that I don't want to take a chance on right now. I wouldn't mind taking on an older one from the shelter but not right now
this is the girl I'm meeting tomorrow. she's a golden cavalier, 8 weeks old

Yes, they get used for bait, sometimes even taping the bait dog mouths shut so they cannot bite back. It's cruel and inhumane, like all dog fights.
In the right hands, these dogs are gentle and compassionate and very family-oriented. They're good dogs that very often are bought by bad people who use and abuse and mistreat them because by doing so, these dogs can become aggressive, but it comes down to the owner.

Unfortunately so true but they are not good to have around kids. I wouldn’t risk it. They need to stop breeding these dogs.

None of what she says is true anyway. The dogs were bred to be hostile, to fight, to attack. People who try to say pitbulls do what they do as a result of bad owners should be brutally eaten alive by them.

I lived in Houston and the south is chockablock with dead pitties from being bait dogs or used in fights. It’s sickening. They are always loose down there. People on IG or YT have their toddlers kissing those big headed dogs makes me cringe.

Because of the possibility of the dog ripping the toddler apart. Parents are dumb.

I would never have them around babies and kids. Too many crazy stories how they turn. People who own pits can’t get home insurance etc. Some cities have them outlawed. They need to stop breeding them period.

The dogs that have the worst record for biting are Poodles.
Have you ever watched Caesar Milan? I've seen him work with some vicious dogs and turn them around. Dogs aren't born vicious and don't grow up vicious, especially if they are socialized. They're taught to be that way by ignorant owners. I've seen a few "vicious" ones, but usually I could take one look at the owners and understand why.
When I take my dog to the dog park, there are a LOT of Pitties because up here, we end up rescuing all the ones that are abused or abandoned down south. Up here, I'd say a good chunk of our rescue dogs come from the south because the rules are so lax, and people just don't care. I personally have only had one "negative" reaction, kind of, with a Pittie, but that's because the owner only used the dog as a junkyard dog and trained encouraged its bad behaviour, so it was always chained up during the day and ignored and let loose to roam the junkyard at night. At the park, there are dozens of Pitties and they're always big babies. I maintain that just like with children, it's how you raise them.

I’ve had five dogs total and some fosters. I owned two poodles and never had problems with them biting. Small dogs do get scared easily but like big dogs not all bite or attack. The owners can be blamed as well but dogs attack for different reasons. I used to go to dog parks and there was always a big dog fight. A lot of things need to be taken into consideration for why dogs attack. Pits just have a bad track record and I will never trust them.

I've never had a problem with Poodles either. I'm just going by statistics. Because Pitties have such powerful jaws, when they bite, they do more damage, so their bites make the news more often.
I understand why you'd feel trepidation around Pitties, especially if you're naturally uneasy around them. They'll pick up on your nervousness as well.
I've seen a few scuffles at the dog park happen, and while most of the time, it's dogs working out their own pecking order and setting boundaries with each other, absolutely there can be dangerous fights that can occur. The very first time I took my dog to the park he got attacked by a German Shepherd and I had to bring my dog to the vets right afterwards due to puncture wounds. This dog was trained to attack, however, and the owner was a total jackass. His dog was not treated very well, and sadly, this dog is no longer with us because he bit another dog and bit a human's hand. He would watch his dog go after other dogs and never get up to intervene and had the attitude that the "weaker" dog had to "learn a lesson". Bad owner! Three strikes and that was it. What's sad is that I later interacted with the dog, and recognized it was the asshole owner, but it has made me really nervous being around Shepherds.

Pits, Shepherds, Dobs all make me nervous. I have been around these animals as people in my family have owned them. My brother used to save a lot of bait dogs when he lived in Florida. He’s never had problems with them afterwards. I’m just cautious as you never know.
Dog parks are the worst place for dog fights. Owners bring their dogs and some don’t have control of their animals. Usually they breakdown the parks by small or large. I would never take small ones in the larger parks. I trained my big dogs walking in the larger dog parks before they went off leash hiking in the mountains which I prefer over any dog park.
I do agree it is the owners but it’s also the breeds and the circumstances they are in at the time of the attacks.

Tbh the fact that her response to that whole shebang is Poodles have the highest rate of biting says all you need to know about the level of delusion these people have.
A Poodle isn't going to rip you apart. You dont hear stories about Poodles getting out and killing somebody going for a walk. This is like if you said it's good that fully automatic rifles are banned and somebody countered with "but handguns, bro."
My only hope is that every pitbull owner is killed by their own four-legged killing machine so we can be rid of them.
