I know! That's what so many people think but it doesn't make any sense.
    Another inconsistency in story. 😞

I would think that in hell, beings take on a different form or god changes them to a different form that they keep. Lucifer still has his powers, so i am guessing him and maze are able to "shapeshift". Lucifer goes changes to his old self. Lilith is stripped of her powers, therefore she had to take on a new form or else she would look like a demon. That's just my two cent.

In the comic, Maze's face was "healed" by a good-intentioned person, even though it pissed her off. She didn't want to be healed. In the end, Lucifer gives her back her original face, the half beautiful, half distorted demon face she was born with. He says that is how he met her and it is how she'll always be most beautiful to him. Lesley-Ann Brandt, who really knows her comic counterpart, confirmed that the tv Maze is shown in her "healed" version, because when her face is in its normal state, her speech is garbled and hard to understand. That wouldn't work on the show the way it worked in the comic. Although to be honest, it was very difficult to understand her in the comic, too. Neil Gaiman created her speech by holding half of his mouth shut while speaking, and then wrote those sounds down.

In the current Lucifer comic (Volume 2), Maze kept the clear speech her healed face affords her. She said something like "It's nice to be actually understood by others."

Hopefully it's just how he sees himself at that moment, but usually a face he puts on while playing head torturer in hell.
Cause if that truly is his real form, it's both a huge deviation from the source material, and - more importantly - quite underwhelming.

I totally agree and really HOPE it's just how he sees himself in his self loathing, because otherwise it makes no sense.

It also served as a quick way to show her he is actually who he said he was.

                    This!
We all know that his true form is that of an angel with white wings, but since he cut them of, this was really the most effective way to show her that all that he told her was not just a metaphore and for her to really see the gravity of the situation. He told her he is the devil and now he showed her that he is the devil.
But now that Linda knows the truth, she should really think about their sessions and what he said. He said that he is not trully evil, that running hell is just his job, and that he punishes the guilty. So once she really thinks about all of that, I think that she will not be afraid of him, and that their relationship will get a whole new meaning.
Any way, I'm glad that finally at least on of the main human cast members knows the truth, and I think that will make the show even more interesting.

No, I think it's not his "true" face in the meaning of "original" face.
It's the face he has as being the devil / showing his "nastier side".
(Btw, it's not the 1st time that comments from a network on their own show are not 100 percent correct.)
I've also read the comics and love them but I really do not expect that anything else of that canon must be fundamental for the show, the writers simply can use something of or get some ideas from it. So now they've brought Maze's "original" face, and I totally loved that they did it. But I'm absolutely ok with all the changes they made from the comics, may it be "who was born 1st", "Mother of all creation" or Lucifer's "true face". Because it works for the storylines of the show and there are no bigger inconsistencies within, imo.

What is it inconsistent from? The entire show is "inspired " from the comic characters and Tom Ellis looks nothing like David Bowie and doesn't have even half of the comic characters powers and a different personality or only bits of it.
I wasn't surprised about his "true face" he talked about it all last season. We also had glimpses of it. Not all fans read the tweets or the articles.
imperfection is an altogether attainable human goal, and love is acceptance of imperfections.

Yup, this. The show was right from the start so far away from the canon, that it makes little sense to get surprised now by the inconsistencies.

It doesn't matter if you don't read what the showrunners and writers say. That's relevant to their story construction, and if they're contradicting themselves, it's a problem with future continuity.
It makes no sense, based on the information we've received so far, that Lucifer would have been born that way and there's been no evidence that God would do that to his favorite son. Even if he had, that would be his "new form" not his "true form".
The showrunner's own statement is that the angels are in their original forms. Lucifer can't have two "true" or original forms. It seemed pretty clear that they were making a point early on that the red devil with tail and horns from folklore was the result of an overly imaginative public. And now they're telling us that this is his "true" form, which would mean the form he was born with. There's no friggin' way that the Light Bringer, most beautiful of the angels and God's favorite son, would be any of that if this were his true form.
All I'm asking is that they get a little more careful with the words they choose and pay attention to their continuity. I'm beginning to think they don't have a continuity director and that they really need one.
I'm going to believe that this is an aspect of himself that Lucifer materializes to scare people and that he may see it as being a reflection of his "true self" because of his personal self-loathing, but I don't believe it's really who he is.

I disagree that he doesn't have two "true forms" he is both and Angel and a Demon. They are both very much a part of who he is. Personally,I think his demon self quite handsome.

He's not a demon. He's still a fallen angel. No one on the show has ever said he's a demon. Maze is a demon.
And I'm not talking about twitter or cast members or writers. I'm talking about what the show has said itself.
Lucifer is the most beautiful and favorite of all of God's angels. He is "The Light Bringer". The "Morning Star". He was not born as a red terrifying looking devil. That came much later, according to the show. That much is very clear. So it can't be his "true" form. It can be an aspect, or a side that was developed, but it wasn't who he was born as. And that's a person's true form.
Just like a prince turned into a frog, his true form is not the frog.
