Junkie ****** was his best role. Real method actor with that one. Apparently he got the role at birth and was just prepping for when it was going to go into production. Sadly he died before that ever happened

Don't get me wrong, I love Ralph Fiennes but Tom Noonan really captured the essence of The Tooth Fairy and William Petersen schools Edward Norton (Who I love!) on being Will Graham.
Manhunter was just a much richer movie overall and was really engaging in ways that Red Dragon wasn't
With the exception of Lounds all of the characters fell flat.
And Lounds gets to be burned as I hate that goddamned talented actor that plays him!

Noonan in Manhunter terrified me and Peterson seemed to understand his Will character better.
Red Dragon tried to sell itself on Hopkins and went for more graphic scenes. It was by the numbers direction to me. Manhunter was more thoughtful with a skilled less is more approach.

I think the impossible question Toast is "If Manhunter had never existed, would Red Dragon have been a good movie on it's own merit?".
And we'll never know because there will always be a comparison

Interesting question, yet even without Manhunter point of reference, Red Dragon and Hannibal would still be compared to Silence Of The Lambs.
I go by film-making sense of aesthetic and impact/impression. Those that haven’t seen Manhunter would give a different perspective into Red Dragon.

Again, as mentioned above the only scene that stands out (To us at least) is Philip Hoffman getting torched
I would be interested in seeing what someone who appreciates cinema thinks of Red Dragon and Man Hunter if they saw them in that order (And with some time between to enjoy each separately).
