    Is it just me or did it look in the movies like Fatty's eyes were glassy? I mean they seemed really pale, like almost empty.

        Pale blue eyes (I'm guessing) did not translate well on grainy, almost over-exposed looking black and white film. That may be why most of the pictures of my much older ancestors look like they have really creepy eyes. 😛

          Roscoe's eyes always looked okay to me. And they look great in this candid photo of him (one of my favourites!).

              That would also probably explain why so many of the early screen's sweethearts and starlets were brunettes.

                Yeah, the film stock didn't pick up color accurately, it was shifted toward red (I think), so the actors had to wear makeup that looked almost like clown makeup to make their faces read natural in the final film image.
