Who should play him?

Johnny Depp. I think his face is close enough to be a perfect match. He's already known for becoming nearly identical to many people including Ed Wood, Joe Pistone, Hunter S. Thompson, and James Barrie. Joe Pistone once said that Depp was so good in Donnie Brasco, that he (Joe) wasn't able to tell the difference between Depp's voice and his own. Depp moved, looked, and talked exactly like him. That's why I think Depp is the greatest actor ever, although Cazale is definately up there.
Who would play Pacino, De Niro, Walken, and Streep? I can't think of anyone for those roles. -

Johnny is one of my favorite actors, and people are pitching him for every role in the world but I'm not sure he's right for this one. Buscemi is a fine choice. I was also thinking about Paul Giamatti, although he'd have to lose a bit weight.
We also need a Francis Ford Coppola and a Gene Hackman (for The Conversation).

Johnny Depp would be a good choice, and Michael Imperioli should play Al Pacino in that case. Julianne Moore as Meryl Streep.
However, I think that making a movie about such well-known actors/actresses, it would be best to use fictional characters, whose lives are based upon the lives of John Cazale, Meryl Streep and Al Pacino, and put an 'in memoriam' for John Cazale in the ending credits. However, I was thinking the same thing today: someone should make a movie about the life John Cazale. -

YES! That's who I was looking for, I couldn't put my finger on it. I agree, if he were younger, dyed his hair and lost his accent he would've been perfect for the role. I would also say Adrien Brody just because they have the same sad eyes. For Meryl Streep, Jennifer Ehle who could very well be her younger sister.

Ok this film idea has the potential to be amazing! Spectacular! Touching! A real "tear jerker", anyway just in case big names in the industry ever read boards on this site - "Please somebody make this film very soon, preferably within this decade!"
Anyway, some ideas for actors/actresses to be cast and in which roles:-
As John Cazale- Steve Buscemi - Steve always comes to mind for me. I actually often think to myself that Steve is the John Cazale of his generation (similar acting style, similar voice, similar appearance)
- Elias Koteas
- Paul Giamatti - Great suggestion, however he would have to work on the voice a little (sounds nothing much like John)
- Philip Seymour Hoffman
- Giovanni Ribisi (Would have to get a bit older looking)
- Christian Slater
As Meryl Streep - Julianne Moore (A bit old though, Meryl was in her 20's at the timeJuli is in her 40's)
- Patricia Arquette
- Naomi Watts
- Keira Knightley (Would have to work on an American accent obviously, I think she could pull it off)
As Robert De Niro
Not sure, it's a difficult one can only think of one person:- - Sean Penn (But he's a bit old to play 1970's De Niro, it may have to be 1980's De Nirowhich obviously would not be relevant to the film anyway)
As Al Pacino - Leonardo DiCaprio (Sounds daft I know, but Leo has become one of the most flexible actors of his generation. The appearance could be good with a little work, and Leo is a talented actor)
- John Leguizamo
- Giovanni Ribisi
As Marlon Brando - Robert Duvall
- Robert Vaughn
- James Caan
As James Caan - Leonardo DiCaprio
- Johnny Depp
- Mark Wahlberg
- Philip Seymour Hoffman (Would have to lose some weight)
- Christian Slater
As Robert Duvall - Damian Lewis
- Tim Roth
- Sean Penn
As Francis Ford Coppola - Paul Giamatti
- John C. Reilly
As Diane Keaton - Julianne Moore
- Nicole Kidman
- Sharon Stone (But I find her incredibly annoying, she gives me migranesshe may be adequate however)
- Tea Leoni
As Talia Shire - Valeria Golino
(Not really sure, can't think of much anyone)
As Lee Strasberg - Eli Wallach - It would have to be Eli. Eli is the 2000's version of the 1970's Lee
As Michael V. Gazzo
This one is too difficult for me to call. I can't think of anyone, I loved Michael in the Godfather: Part II but I just can't think of anyone.
As Christopher Walken
CAN'T THINK DAMN IT! TOO TIRED!
As Frederic Forrest - Tom Sizemore
- Philip Seymour Hoffman
I love South Park! Matt and Trey are genius! JR
