He plays a homosexual in Mrs. Doubtfire and in Independence Day, so, is he gay in real too?

Harvey Fiernstein is a brilliant actor who has over and over again proven to be able to constantly reinvent himself. He began his career mostly as a drg queen and developed on Broadway his first time performing as a man he jokes was once he was already gaining career momentum. He is a great gay icon because he has been successful in his career while being out as gay from the very beginning. Other actors(Nathan Lane, Rupert Everett, Ellen DeGeneres) have come out once famous but he always has been making him a true role model for gay people everywhere. So in answer to your question yes he is.

ah but though carl was definitely gay it was never explicitely said so someone who questions if harvey is and i quote "gay in real too" may have also missed carl as they are about equal in their rate of flamboyancy. Just saying.

LOL,Harvey Fierstein having a wife! That's a good one. Fierstein is an amazing actor who being a gay man himself has constantly uses his writing/acting to protect gay rights and fight discrimination (Watch Torch Song Trilogy which he wrote and starred). He is an amazing writer and an amazing actor as well which is more important than his sexual orientation, together with Tommy Tune he holds the record of a person with more Tony Awards in different categories. He's always being up front about his sexual orientation and never hid it.

Kylethurna, you are a liar.
Wikipedia:
Fierstein occasionally contributes authors columns about gay issues. He was openly gay at a time when very few celebrities were, and never needed to come out, as it was simply known that he was gay. His careers as a stand-up comic and female impersonator are mostly behind him. Fierstein resides in Ridgefield, Connecticut. -

His character in Independence Day is gay?? I mean of course putting Harvey Fierstein in the role automatically puts the sexuality of the character into question but I don't think its ever actually confirmed whether or not the character is gay.
I LOVE Harvey Fierstein, he's one of my idols, and I have very few of them. I'm not the star stuck type, he's just such an inspiration as an actor and performer.
