It was more of a Protestant/Evangelical thing.
In my experience, Catholics are generally the better Christians and less stringent, but that could vary by region.

I heard about that more after the fact. Must've not been as prominent around me.
I do remember violence in kids shows and films like TMNT and Power Rangers being a problem with some parents as well as Beavis and Butthead because one dumbass white trash kid with ****ty parents either lit his house on fire or blew it up.
