We only like them when I make them. I butter bread on both sides and lay them out on cookie sheets lined with parchment paper. Then, I lightly sprinkle one side with garlic powder and the other with onion powder.
I pop that in an oven set at 280 degrees F. I leave them in about 20 minutes…
i turn them over at halftime…
Hey! golden brown on both sides!
I let those sit and once they seem crisp, you cut them into cubes… much better than the croutons the restaurants put out! Seriously! some of those are as gum cutting as Cap n Crunch!

You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.

If it's an instant salad from the grocery store that already includes them or a takeout salad that includes them, I will eat them.
If I'm making my own salad at home, I normally don't use croutons. I add enough stuff to dress it up that it isn't necessary to add them.

I was re-reading this post, then I remembered that one time I had actually made croutons. But that was a long time ago. Now my curiosity is up,
and I will have to try making them again. It surprises me what one can remember, but when someone else brings a certain topic up for discussion. 🤭
